Tests are underway at Iggesund Forestry

Tests are currently underway at Iggesund Forest, one of Sweden's leading manufacturers of saw bars. Iggesund has long experienced problems with customers using the wrong grease for their machines, which means that nose sprockets seize or break, the bars run too hot, or chains gum up.

But now Iggesund has started to investigate solutions to avoid unnecessary wear and breakdowns. For over a year, they have been conducting tests with a surprising grease: ROVAB's flagship railway lubricant, Biorail®.

Biorail is a biodegradable grease that has been used on Sweden's railways for over 15 years. It is designed to withstand the harsh conditions found on the Swedish railway system.

Biorail meets high demands for temperature and water resistance with strong adhesion. At the same time, the grease must be able to withstand stresses caused by some of Sweden's fastest and heaviest trains. Today, Biorail is the most widespread lubricant in Sweden, covering the majority of the Swedish railway network.

Biorail's properties as a railway grease have proven to be of great benefit in several industries, and it is likened to an advanced heavy-duty grease that is also biodegradable. For Iggesund Forest, the grease has resulted in clear reductions in both lubrication intervals and maintenance-related problems.

Based on a year of research at Iggesund, Biorail seems ready for expansion into several industries where biodegradable oils have not previously been possible, or reliable.

In addition to saw bars, Biorail is currently also being tested on trucks and construction vehicles.

This post is part of a new series of investigations into sustainable maintenance where Biorail plays a leading role.
